#9 Wildcats Secure First Ever Victory in Provo Against #8 BYU

PROVO, Utah. - The #9 Central Washington University men's rugby team (5-2) secured a tough 37-27 victory over #8 BYU on Saturday afternoon. Snowy conditions played a factor but ultimately the 'Cats were able to come together and pull away for the win.

  • The Wildcats struck early, capitalizing on a costly BYU mistake in the 3rd minute to score a try, CWU 5, BYU 0.
  • The Cougars responded with a penalty kick in the 17th minute to get on the scoreboard, CWU 5, BYU 3.
  • In the 24th minute, BYU scored a try to give them the lead, CWU 5, BYU 8.
  • In the 27th minute, Oscar Treacy secured a try on the right flank to regain the lead for the Wildcats, followed by a Jac Tregoning conversion, CWU 12, BYU 8.
  • The 'Cats dominated in the 30th minute, using a powerful team effort to push the scrum across the goal line for a try, CWU 17, BYU 8.
