'Cats Drill 26 Runs and 9 Homers in Day Two Split in Billings

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Central Washington University Softball Team wrapped up the season series against the Yellowjackets with another split knocking in 26 runs and nine homeruns on the day.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Jessica Reitz-Eaton started things off with a bang, drilling a homerun in the first at-bat of the game.
  • Gabi Casco followed two at-bats later with a homer of her own to also knock in Karsyn Decker.
  • Brooke Blocker added on later in the first with a three-run homer of her own to score Ashlyn Cook and Mia Flores and make it 6-0 CWU after the first inning.
  • Decker nabbed her first homerun of her career to score Reitz-Eaton to make it 8-0 'Cats after the second inning.
  • The Yellowjackets got on the board in the third inning when Kaylin Galvin and Bryn Lucht hit back-to-back homeruns to cut it to 8-2 CWU.
  • Serena Perez scored Flores in the fourth inning with a single to make it 9-2 crimson and black.
  • Casco capped off the game with her second homerun of the day and fourth of the weekend to score Decker and Reitz-Eaton and make it 12-2 Central Washington.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Reitz-Eaton, Decker, Casco, and Blocker each had two hits for the 'Cats.
  • Cook, Perez, and Adriana Rodriguez all collected one hit apiece.
  • Casco had five RBI while Blocker had three, Decker had two, and Reitz-Eaton and Perez each had one.
  • Flores drew two walks while Reitz-Eaton and Blocker each drew one.
  • Six different 'Jackets recorded one hit apiece.
  • Galvin and Lucht each had one RBI for MSUB.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Payton Kessler pitched all five innings for the 'Cats allowing six hits, two runs, and one walk but struck out two of 22 batters faced.
  • Caitlyn James was unable to record an out for the 'Jackets while allowing five hits, six runs, and one walk against six batters.
  • Elaina Troxell pitched two innings allowing two hits, two runs, and one walk but recorded one strikeout against 10 batters for MSUB.
  • Shelby Wasilewski pitched the final three innings allowing four hits, four runs with three being earned, and two walks while earning one strikeout against 16 batters faced.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • MSUB struck in the first when Lauren Blaschak singled to left center to score Marleigh Nieto followed by Wynter Hurts doubling to right field to score Blaschak and Emily Watters to make it 3-0 'Jackets.
  • Avery Gray followed that up still in the first with a homer to left center field to also score Hurst followed by Grace hood homering to put MSUB up 6-0.
  • In the second inning Jazlyn Kalehuawehe homered to left field to score Galvin and put MSUB up 8-0.
  • Brooke Blocker put the 'Cats on the board with another three-run homerun to score Flores and Casco and cut it to an 8-3 MSUB lead in the third.
  • Lucht followed in the fourth with another homerun to score Galvin and put MSUB up 10-3.
  • Cook reached on an error by the second baseman in the fifth inning which allowed Flores to score to make it 10-4 MSUB.
  • Later in the fifth Ashtyn Falor drilled a grand slam to center field to score Perez, Reese Schimmel, and Cook and cut it to a 10-8 'Jacket lead.
  • Back-to-back errors by the MSUB infield helped score Rodriguez and Reitz-Eaton to tie things up still in the fifth.
  • Flores tacked on her fourth homer of the weekend scoring Cady Wilton and Decker to put CWU up 13-10 and make it a 10-run fifth inning for the 'Cats.
  • Kalehuawehe answered in the sixth with a homerun to left field to score Lucht followed by Hurst tripling then scoring on an error by the shortstop while also scoring Blaschak to put the 'Jackets up 14-13.
  • Decker kept the 'Cats hopes alive with a homerun to right field in the top of the seventh inning to tie things up at 14.
  • MSUB sealed the victory when Nieto singled to the shortstop to score Peyton Roberge and make it 15-14 'Jackets.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Flores, Perez, and Falor all had two hits apiece.
  • Reitz-Eaton, Decker, Casco, Blocker, and Schimmel all recorded one hit apiece.
  • Falor had four RBI while Flores and Blocker each knocked in three and Decker contributed one.
  • Rodriguez drew two walks while Decker, Casco, and Flores all drew one.
  • Kalehuawehe led MSUB with five hits and four RBI.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched 1.2 innings allowing seven hits, eight runs, and one walk while striking out one of 13 batters faced.
  • Olivia Ross came in and pitched the next four innings allowing four hits, four runs, two walks, and earned one strikeout against 18 batters.
  • Kessler pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing seven hits, three runs with only one being earned, and one walk, but struck three out out of 15 batters faced.
  • Watters pitched 4.1 innings for MSUB allowing seven hits, six runs with only four being earned, and three walks while striking out four of 24 batters.
  • Troxell did not earn an out for the 'Jackets allowing one hit and two runs against two batters.
  • Wasilewski also did not earn an out allowing one hit, three runs with none being earned, and one walk against three batters.
  • James pitched the final 4.2 innings allowing two hits, three runs with two being earned, and one walk while earning two strikeouts against 18 batters.
 
SERIES HISTORY:
 
  • CWU is now 60-36 against MSUB all-time.
  • The 'Cats are 23-19 in Billings.

UP NEXT:
 
  • CWU will remain on the road as they travel up to Burnaby, BC north of the border for a four-game series at Simon Fraser (14-17, 5-5 GNAC) next Friday and Saturday April 4 and 5. Game one on Friday is set to start at 3:00 p.m. while game one on Saturday is set to begin at noon from Beedie Field.
