BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team suffered a pair of setbacks at Western Washington Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1:
SCORING:
- Kasi Thomas put the 'Cats up early in the first inning with a single to left field to score McKayla Cable and make it 1-0 in favor of CWU.
- The Vikings got on the board in the fourth inning when Emily McCutcheon singled up the middle to score EmmaJoy Wise followed by Olivia Matlock doubling to left center field to score Reagan Ryan and Nazli Chavez singling to third base to score Chayse Flick-Williams and finally Maleah Andrews sacrificing herself to the second baseman to score Haylee Kim to put WWU up 4-1.
- Izzy Vargas answered back for the 'Cats in the fifth with a home run which also scored Adriana Rodriguez to cut it to a 4-3 WWU lead.
- The Vikings sealed the victory when the tacked on one more in the sixth when Wise sacrificed herself to the left fielder which scored Laila Carpenter and made it a 5-3 WWU game.
HITTING:
- Thomas led CWU with two hits while Vargas and Ashlyn Cook each added one.
- Vargas had two RBI while Thomas had one.
- Cable drew the only walk of the game for CWU.
- Kim led WWU with two hits while seven other Vikings logged one each.
- Chavez, Andrews, Wise, McCutcheon, and Matlock all had one RBI.
- Hailey Rath drew two walks while Andrews and Carpenter each drew one.
PITCHING:
- Brooke Baker pitched the first three innings allowing four hits, three runs, and one walk while earning one strikeout against 13 batters.
- Alex Flohr pitched the next two innings allowing four hits, one run, one walk, and earned one strikeout against 11 batters.
- Ellie Gilbert pitched the final inning allowing one hit, one run, and two walks against six batters.
- Alanna Wirtala pitched all seven innings for WWU allowing four hits, three runs, and one walk while striking out seven of 27 batters.
GAME 2:
SCORING:
- Rath started off the first inning with a double down the right field line to score Payton Chacon followed by Matlock singling to the pitcher to score Rath, then Kim singling to center field to score Andrews to make it 3-0 WWU after the first inning.
- Andrews added on in the second with a single up the middle to score Chacon followed by Wise homering to left field to score Andrews and Rath in the process and made it 7-0 in favor of the Vikings.
- Chacon stole home in the third inning to make it 8-0 WWU.
- Brusseau singled up the middle to score Thomas in the fourth inning, then scoring on a wild pitch in the next at bat followed by Joelie Eder singling to left field which scored Mia Flores, then Baker doubled to left field to score Vargas and Eder and make it 8-5 in favor of WWU.
- The Vikings added another in the bottom of the fourth when Kim singled to the pitcher on a bunt to score Ryan thanks to a throwing error by the right fielder.
- The Vikings put it away in the fifth when Kim singled up the middle to score Wise followed by Carpenter singling through the right side to score Kim and Rachel Traxler and finally Rath doubled to left field to score Carpenter to give WWU the 13-5 five inning victory.
HITTING:
- Brusseau led CWU with two hits while Baker, Thomas, and Eder all had one.
- Baker had two RBI while Brusseau and Eder each had one.
- Cable, Thomas, Flores, Vargas, and Hallie Sehlin all drew one walk.
- Wise and Kim led WWU with three hits while Rath and Matlock each had two with four other Vikings logging one hit each.
- Rath drew three walks while Chacon drew two and Chavez, Andrews, Traxler, and Carpenter all drew one each.
PITCHING:
- Zoey Theophilus pitched two innings allowing seven hits, seven runs, and four walks against 17 batters.
- Reese Anderson pitched the next inning allowing one hit, two runs, and three walks but earned a strikeout against nine batters.
- Gilbert pitched the next 1.2 innings allowing five hits, four runs, and one walk against 10 batters.
- Flohr pitched against the next two batters allowing one hit and one walk.
- Evalyn Massena pitched the first 3.1 innings allowing three hits, two runs, three walks, and two strikeouts against 16 batters.
- Mac Ferguson pitched 0.1 innings allowing one hit, three runs, and two walks against four batters.
- Wirtala pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs, no walks, and two strikeouts against five batters.
SERIES HISTORY:
- The Vikings lead the all-time series 95-78.
- WWU is on an eight-game win-streak.
- WWU is 43-35 in Bellingham.
