Saints Take Day One Doubleheader

LACEY, Wash. – The Central Washington University Softball Team fell in their day one doubleheader at Saint Martin's on Saturday.

  • Taylor Oregeles put the Saints on top in the first inning with a double to center field which scored Kaylee Walker, Heather Ebner, and Shelby Lawson and made it 3-0 SMU.
  • The Wildcats responded in the third inning, first when Kasi Thomas singled to right field to score Melise Brown followed by Kayla Brusseau sacrificing herself to the second baseman to score Jessica Reitz-Eaton and wrapped up by Jadyn Holdren singled to center field to score Thomas and Izzy Vargas to give CWU the 4-3 lead.
  • The Saints tied things up in the bottom of the third when Layla Royle reached on a fielder's choice to score Eva Spencer.
  • Saint Martin's earned the walk off win in the seventh when a throwing error by the catcher scored Kaslyn Watanabe to give SMU the 5-4 victory.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Thomas led CWU with two hits while Holdren, Brown, Reitz-Eaton, Lizzy Turpen, and McKayla Cable all had one hit.
  • Holdren had two RBI while Thomas and Brusseau each had one.
  • Cable, Brown, Brooke Baker, and Mia Flores all drew one walk.
  • Elissa DeWees led SMU with two hits while seven other Saints all logged one hit.
  • Oregeles had three RBI while Royle added one.
  • Haley Agena, Ebner, Walker, Amanda Peterson, and Oregeles all drew one walk.
 
PITCHING:
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched all 6.1 innings allowing nine hits, five runs with four earned, and five walks while striking out two of 33 batters.
  • Bridget Johnson pitched the first three innings allowing five hits, four runs, and one walk while striking out one of 14 batters.
  • Keagan Norfleet pitched the next three innings allowing two hits, no runs, three walks, and two strikeouts against 14 batters.
  • Peterson pitched the final inning, allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks while striking out one of three batters.
 
GAME 2:
 
SCORING:
 
  • Brusseau got things started with a single to left field to score Cable in the first inning.
  • SMU tied it up in the bottom of the first when she sacrificed herself to the center fielder to score Agena and make it 1-1.
  • Agena gave the Saints their first lead of game two with a single to center field which scored Emilee Morris and made it 2-1 SMU.
  • Brusseau tied things up in the third with a single to center field to score Cable once again to make it 2-2.
  • Royle responded in the bottom of the third when she sacrificed herself to the left fielder to score Spencer and make it 3-2 in favor of SMU.
  • The Saints added on in the fourth when Lawson singled to left field to score Dewees followed by Walker singling to center field to score Lawson and Agena to make it 6-2 in favor of the Saints.
  • SMU added on in the fifth when Ebner earned a bases loaded walk to score Dewees followed by Walker sacrificing herself to the third baseman to score Lawson, concluded by Oregeles singling to right field to score Ebner and make it 9-2 in favor of the Saints.
  • Vargas tripled in the sixth to score Cable followed by Thomas doubling to left field to score Vargas, however it wasn't enough as the Saints won 9-4.
 
HITTING:
 
  • Cable led the 'Cats with four hits while Brusseau added two and Vargas, Thomas, Baker, and Brown all had one hit.
  • Brusseau had two RBI while Vargas and Thomas each added one RBI.
  • Thomas, Holdren, Baker, and Brown all drew one walk.
  • Agena, Oregeles, and Dewees all had two hits while six other Saints logged one hit each.
  • Walker had four RBI while Agena, Lawson, Oregeles, and Royle all had one RBI each.
  • Ebner drew two walks while Agnea and Lawson each drew one.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Alex Flohr pitched the first three innings allowing nine hits, six runs with five earned, three walks, and three strikeouts against 22 batters.
  • Reese Anderson pitched the next two innings allowing three hits, three runs, and one walk against 12 batters.
  • Baker pitched the final inning allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks while earning a strikeout against three batters.
  • Kayla Vaughan pitched the first 2.1 innings allowing five hits, two runs, one walk, and earned a strikeout against 13 batters.
  • Heidi Lieitz pitched the next 3.1 innings allowing five hits, two runs, two walks, and earned four strikeouts against 17 batters.
  • Peterson pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing no hits, no runs, and one walk against five batters.
