Wildcats Fall in Day One at NNU

NAMPA, Idaho -  The Central Washington University Softball Team fell in their day one doubleheader at Northwest Nazarene Friday afternoon.

GAME 1:
 
SCORING:
 
  • NNU struck first in the first inning when Emma Bumatay sacrificed herself to the right fielder which scored Ava Clark to make it 1-0 NNU.
  • The Nighthawks added on in the second when Lauryn Bergevin sacrificed herself to the shortstop to score Paisley Noyer followed by Annie Swanson grounding out to the pitcher to score Lola Crosby to make it 3-0 NNU. 
  • KK Bell began the start of the breakthrough for the Nighthawks when she singled up the middle to score Jami Obringer followed by Crosby sacrificing herself to the left fielder to score Bell and Bergevin singling through the left side to score Noyer to make it 6-0 NNU. 
  • Jadyn Holdren put the 'Cats on the board in the fourth with a single up the middle to score Kayla Brusseau to cut it to 6-1 in favor of the Nighthawks. 
  • NNU responded in the bottom of the fourth when Bell reached by an error from the shortstop to score Clark and give the Nighthawks the 7-1 victory. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • Izzy Vargas, Jessica Reitz-Eaton, Lizzy Turpen, Brusseau, and Holdren all had one hit. 
  • Holdren had the 'Cats only RBI. 
  • Kasi Thomas and Brooke Baker both drew one walk.
  • Noyer and Riglee Peterson led NNU with two hits while Obringer, Bell, Bergevin, and Swanson all had one hit. 
  • Bergevin had two RBI while Bumatay, Bell, Crosby, and Swanson all had one RBI. 
  • Clark and Noyer drew two walks while Crosby and Bergevin each drew one walk. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Zoey Theophilus pitched the first three innings allowing six hits, six runs, two walks, and earned two strikeouts against 18 batters.
  • Reese Anderson pitched the final three innings allowing two hits, one run which was not earned, four walks, and struck out two of 15 batters.
  • Miah Lusk pitched all seven innings for NNU allowing five hits, one run, two walks, and earned five strikeouts against 29 batters.

SCORING:
 
  • Ashley Espino broke the game open in the first inning with a home run to left field to also score Bumatay and Obringer to make it 3-0 NNU.
  • Holdren cut it to a 3-1 score in the second inning when she sacrificed herself to the left field to score Mia Flores
  • The Nighthawks added on in the fourth when Espino hit her second home run of the game, a solo shot to left field followed by Peterson sacrificing herself to the second baseman to score Crosby and make it 5-1 NNU. 
  • The 'Cats cut the deficit down in the fifth when Vargas sacrificed herself to the center fielder to score Brusseau followed by Joelie Eder singling through the right side to score Reitz-Eaton and cut it to a 5-3 NNU lead. 
  • NNU wrapped it up in the fifth inning when Bumatay doubled to right center field to score Obringer followed by Espino doubling to right center to score Molly Buckingham and Mekhia Wagner and Peterson singling up the middle to score Crosby and Kaylee Duncan to make it a 10-3 NNU lead. 
 
HITTING:
 
  • McKayla Cable led the 'Cats with three hits while Holdren, Brusseau, Reitz-Eaton, Vargas, Flores, Eder, and Turpen all logged one hit. 
  • Holdren, Vargas, and Eder all had one RBI. 
  • Brusseau, Baker, and Turpen all drew one walk. 
  • Espino led NNU with three hits while Obringer and Crosby added two and Bumatay and Peterson each tacked on one. 
  • Espino had six RBI while Peterson added two and Bumatay tacked on one. 
  • Clark, Bumatay, and Bergevin all drew one walk. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Alex Flohr pitched 4.1 innings allowing six hits, seven runs, three walks, and struck out three of 21 batters.
  • Baker pitched 0.1 innings allowing three hits, three runs, and no walks against five batters.
  • Ellie Gilbert pitched the final 1.1 innings allowing no hits, no runs, and no walks while striking out one of four batters.
  • Riley McGee pitched the first 4.2 innings allowing nine hits, three runs, two walks, and earned one strikeout against 26 batters.
  • Victoria Frias pitched the final 2.1 innings allowing one hit, no runs, and one walk against nine batters.

  • CWU leads the all-time series by an 86-48 margin. 
  • CWU is 35-27 in Nampa over NNU.
