Background: An incoming freshman from Curtis High School, Kellen McInelly arrives at CWU with strong range form 800 meters up to 5000 meters. McInelly  shined at the end of his senior campaign, putting together a season that included a 9:04 200 meter and 4:11 1600 meter run, finishing in 3rd and 6th in the 4A State Championship in those two events, along with a Top 15 finish at the 2024 WIAA 4A Cross Country Championships. Both he and fellow incoming freshman, Dima Serafimovici represented Curtis High School’s 4x1600 meter relay team at the Arcadia Invitational, helping place their squad to 6th overall in the national-level meet.
