Achievements: Breaking 21 minutes senior year, qualifying for the 2023 WA state championship, graduating with high school diploma as well as AA, graduating with high honors, being team captain for XC and distance track.
Why CWU: " I chose CWU because of the outstanding academics and some of the alumni's that have come from CWU, it's excellent athletic program, and the culture of the school."
Personal: Parents are Ronald and Christina, 2 siblings, and birthday is August 23, 2006. Dog named Reggie.
Background: A freshman from Federal Way, WA, Helayna Bonilla comes to the Wildcats as a state qualifier in cross country representing Federal Way High School, and an on-track threat in the middle distance events.
2024-2025: Helayna Bonilla started her freshman Wildcat career in August with the cross country team, and competed all three seasons. She ran with the cross country team at the GNAC Championships, helping the women to place 7th in the conference. She ran the 800m, mile, and the 3000m run throughout her indoor season. Going into outdoor season, Helayna competed in three events at the CWU Wildcat Opener, including the 800m, 1500m, and the 3000m steeplechase. After her opener, she had personal records in the 1500m and 5000m runs and stayed consistent in the 800m.
