Biography

2024-2025: Sam began her freshman season with a high jump personal record of 1.53m at the Riverfront Mulit's meet. She was a two-time GNAC Indoor Championship qualifier. Following her indoor appearances, Sam competed in the heptathlon for an overall PR, and four event PR's to take fifth at the CWU Wildcat Opener. At the CWU Wildcat Invitational, Sam had PR's in both the long and triple jump to take second and fifth in the meet. Finishing out her freshman season, Sam was a three-event GNAC Outdoor Championship qualifier!
Background: On her way from powerhouse Wenatchee, Sam Delay (daughter of CWU Letterman, Josh Delay ‘99-02) brings speed, athleticism, leadership and legacy back to Ellensburg.  Sam was team captain her senior year as well as voted Most Inspirational.  Sam ran varsity sprints and relays, qualifying for state in the 4x100 and narrowingly missing the mark in the 4x200,  but was most dominant in the jumps.  Sam won the 2024 CBBN District Championship after finishing 6th her junior year, on her way to qualifying for the WIAA 4A State Championships.

Achievements: Track and Field:Big 9 district champion in High jump, 2024, Team Captain, 2024, 4 varsity letters, 2021-2024, Scholar-athlete award for having a 3.5+ GPA in season, 2021-2024,Coaches Award, 2023 and 2024, second team all conference for the 4x100m, 2023 and 2024, Second team all conference for the 4x200m, 2024, Honorable mention for long jump, 2024, State participant, 2023 and 2024. Nominated most inspirational by teammates, 2024, Graduated with an AA degree through Wenatchee Valley College, graduated with a 3.98 GPA, Female Spring sport athlete of the year, 2024
Why CWU? "CWU felt like home from the moment I stepped on campus. The academics, athletics, coaches, professors, and atmosphere were all perfect for my wants when going to college. I also love the close knit community and the short distance from home."
Personal: "I grew up in Puyallup, Washington until moving to Wenatchee in 2018. My parents names are Jennifer and Joshua, who are both Central Alumni. My dad was on the track team as well, which was a big inspiration for me growing up. I have one sister named Lexie who is going to be a Freshman at Wenatchee High School. My birthday is June 26, 2006. Some of my favorite hobbies are skiing, working out, going to the lake, and, obviously, Track and Field."
