Biography
2024-2025: After an impressive freshman campaign, Weslee started his first indoor season throwing shot put and learning the weight throw. He qualified for both shot put and weight at the Nevada Invitational & Multi meet, where he threw his indoor personal record of 15.71m. This throw is 7th on the CWU Indoor All-Time list! Wes was also a dual event qualifier for the Indoor GNAC Championship in shot and weight. He finished the meet as the Conference Runner-Up in the shot put. During his first outdoor meet, Wes not only won both shot put and discus at the Wildcat Opener, but he also had a PR of 45.59m in discus. Following this performace he had another discus PR of 46.08, as well as a hammer debut at the Whitworth Invitational. Wes was a dual event qualifier again for the Outdoor GNAC Championship meet. He had a huge PR in discus during the championships, throwing 48.07m to take home a bronze medal in the event. He also had a season's best in shot put of 15.87m to take silver.
2023-2024: After a using a red shirt for his freshman indoor season, Wes joined the Wildcats outdoors in 2024 to throw both shot put and discus. In his first collegiate meet, he won the shot put and placed second in discus. Following this was the Oregon Preview meet, where Wes placed 5th in both shot put and discus. At the Wildcat Invitational meet he won the shot put with a throw of 15.45m and placed 4th in the discus. To finish out his first season as a Wildcat, Wes qualified for the Outdoor GNAC Championship in both shot and discus. With a personal record throw of 16.04m in the shot put, Wes placed 1st in the GNAC. He also placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 43.21m. Wes' shot put PR makes him number six on the CWU Outdoor All-Time List.
Background: Weslee "Wes" Kriete came to Central Washington from Ephrata High School, where he competed in both football and track and field. He earned All-League Honors as both a defensive and offensive lineman during his junior and senior years, as well as played in the Earl Barden All-Star Game. During his junior year track season, Wes placed 2nd in both shot put and discus at the WIAA State Championship meet. His senior season, he broke his high school's record in the shot put and won the Pasco Invite while doing so. To finish out his high school career, Wes placed 2nd in the shot put at the State Meet.
