Jonathan Fickle

Jonathan Fickle is the assistant cross country and track and field coach in charge of pole vault and recruiting coordinator at Central Washington University, bringing extensive experience as a coach. He has been coaching pole vault since 2018, beginning at Pullman High School (2018–2019) and later at Hanford High School (2020–2025). He is also the founder of Columbia Vault Academy and was a trainer at Elite Athletics Training in the Tri-Cities, Washington, where he worked with NCAA Division I and professional athletes across multiple sports.

A former pole vaulter at Whitworth University, Fickle has developed a reputation for guiding athletes to peak performance. His coaching highlights include mentoring a U.S. High School #7-ranked vaulter, Landry Allen, in 2024, coaching multiple state champions (2018, 2023), producing ten state podium finishers, and helping freshman Jonathan Allen achieve a 16’1” clearance in 2025. During the 2025 season the Hanford pole vaulters swept the conference and regional championships taking 4 girls and 1 freshman boy to the WIAA 4A State Championship Meet where they scored 10.5 points. In recognition of his accomplishments, he was nominated for the UCS Spirit National High School Coach of the Year in 2025.

Fickle’s personal goal for every program he leads is not simply to win but to dominate the conference podium. He emphasizes a holistic approach to pole vault training, combining technical development, strength and conditioning, and individualized athlete guidance. Through his programs, he fosters both athletic excellence and personal growth, preparing athletes to reach their highest potential.
