Josh Wetzler begins his first year as Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Central Washington. Wetzler, who comes to Central after five years at Oregon Tech in Klamath Falls, Ore., began his new duties in Ellensburg on Dec. 1

“We are extremely excited to have Josh join our team,” CWU Director of Athletics Dr. Dennis Francois said. “He brings a diverse set of skills and experiences that will further enhance our outward facing services and ultimately elevate both our fan and student-athlete experience. I am also confident that his experience as a student-athlete and coach at the collegiate level will prove to be beneficial, not to mention his time playing professionally.”

As the Assoc. AD/External Affairs, Wetzler will have primary oversight of CWU’s communications, marketing and fan experience, corporate sponsorships, and ticketing efforts.

"I am really excited to be joining the talented professionals at the Central Washington University Department of Athletics,” Wetzler says. “It will be an honor to contribute to the success of the team, and work towards the vision and goals that Dennis has outlined for the department. I would like to thank Dennis, search committee chair Gary Hyatt, and the entire search committee for this incredible opportunity. I very much look forward to helping build upon the success and tradition of Wildcats Athletics.”

In his five years at Oregon Tech, Wetzler performed double duty as both Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Business Development and Associate Head Coach for men’s basketball.

In his role as Assistant AD, Wetzler was responsible for developing strategic marketing plans with key focus on maximizing ticket revenue, increasing fan attendance, and enhancing the Oregon Tech brand. He was also the point person for all marketing and promotional activities surrounding athletic contests and selected other athletic sponsored and community events.

In addition, Wetzler also rebuilt, marketed, and launched the Oregon Tech Booster Club, as well as leading facilities upgrade projects, including the redesign of Danny Miles Court.

As Associate Head Coach, Wetzler helped lead the Owls to a 100-36 overall record and four trips to the NAIA Division II national tournament.

Wetzler and wife, Marcie, recently welcomed their first child, daughter Eloise.
