RUUD PLACES TENTH AT NCAA DIVISION II INDOOR NATIONALS
Wildcat Sophomore is Top GNAC Finisher in Men's Weight Throw at Championships BOSTON, Mass. - Central Washington University sophomore
Evan Ruud (Kennewick/Kamiakin HS) finished 10th in the men's weight throw at the 2007 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center on Friday afternoon.
Ruud, one of three Wildcats competing at this weekend's indoor nationals, entered the event seeded 13th and earning the final qualifying spot in the event for nationals. This year's Great Northwest Athletic Conference runner-up in the event, Ruud had a throw of 17.60 meters (57 feet, 9 inches) on Friday and finished two places ahead of conference champion Anthony Marin of Western Oregon.
Kibwe Johnson of Ashland (Ohio) won the event with a toss of 82 feet, 3 1/2 inches, topping his seed mark of 24.34 meters (79 feet, 10 1/4 inches).
Two of Ruud's teammates will be competing in their respective events on Saturday. Fellow thrower
Cameron Neel (Woodinville) will be bidding for his fifth All-American award in the men's shot put, which is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (7 a.m. PST). Later in the day, junior
Katie Hummel (Yakima/Eisenhower HS) will run in the women's 5,000 meters, a race that is slated for a 5:48 p.m. EST (2:48 p.m. PST) start.
