Harris joined the CWU men’s basketball staff as the head assistant coach during the 2012-13 season. Prior to 2012, Harris served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wildcats. He brings four years of collegiate playing experience to Central. He has also coached at the high school level.
At CWU, Harris led the Wildcats to the GNAC championship his senior season. The team was ranked top five in the nation and posted one of the best school records in history. Harris was named to the all-conference second team and GNAC all-academic.
After finishing his undergrad in sociology, Harris began his coaching career in his hometown of Yakima, Wash., where served as the junior varsity assistant coach at Eisenhower High School.
As a coach at CWU, Harris has many different responsibilities including the implementation of offensive and defensive strategies, building strong connections for player recruiting, player analysis and development, and assisting in managing and directing the program.
His passion for basketball developed when Harris was only in kindergarten. His father, Fred Harris, and uncle, Joe Harris played collegiately so basketball was all around him while growing up. Joe Harris still holds CWU’s season and career record for assists.
Harris says what he enjoys most about his job is having a positive impact on student athletes while doing something that he loves. Drew is the son of Fred and Marry Harris. He has an older brother, Blake.
