Box Score

SEATTLE (Nov. 9) -- Junior Kady Try (Brentwood, Calif./Mead HS) had 14 kills, and freshman teammate Marcy Hjellum (Kennewick/Kamiakin HS) added 10 kills, four service aces, and a career-high 26 digs as Central Washington completed its suspended match with Seattle Pacific with a five-set win over the Falcons on Monday night. Set scores were 27-25, 25-12, 15-25, 15-25, 15-13.

The win extended Central's win streak to three matches and improved its record to 15-10 overall and 7-7 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Seattle Pacific is now 16-10 overall and 10-4 in the conference.

In a match originally scheduled for last Thursday night but suspended due to a power outage with the first-set score tied at 24-24, Central resumed play by scoring three of four points to take a 27-25 win. The Wildcats then routed the Falcons by a 25-12 count in the second frame behind a .312 hitting percentage and an 18-6 set-ending run.

Seattle Pacific responded with consecutive 25-15 set victories. The Falcons contained Central to a minus-.053 hitting percentage in the third set and a .047 mark in the fourth while hitting better than .250 in each frame to tie the match at two sets apiece to force the fifth.

The Wildcats, who improved to 5-3 in five-set matches this season, fell behind by three points early and trailed by as many as four at 11-7 later in the set. However, following a timeout, Central mounted a comeback, taking a 13-12 lead. Seattle Pacific tied it at 13-13, but senior Erin Norris (Spokane/Mead HS) then came through with consecutive kills to end the match and give CWU the win.

Norris joined Try and Hjellum with double-digit kill totals for the contest, matching Hjellum with 10 kills. Hjellum, junior Brandie Vea (Honolulu, Hawaii/Kalani HS), and sophomore setter Carlee Marble (La Conner) combined for 65 of the Wildcats' 85 kills, with Vea totaling a team-high 29 and Marble adding 10.

Seattle Pacific was led by the 14 kills each from Sarah Risser and Lindsey Wodrich. Risser added 13 digs, while Kylie Johnson was in on 10 of the Falcons' 13 blocks. Libero Anna Herold led all players with 40 digs for SPU, which edged Central 86-85 in total digs.

Central Washington will return home for its final two matches of the 2009 season on Thursday (Nov. 12) and Saturday (Nov. 14) versus Montana State Billings and Saint Martin's, respectively. Saturday's match against the Saints will be Senior Night -- the final collegiate home match for three Wildcat seniors. Both contests are set to start at 7 p.m.
