CWU defensive coordinator Joe Lorig was named as one of three finalists for the 2009 FootballScoop Division II Coordinator of the Year.
ELLENSBURG (Dec. 8) -- Central Washington University assistant head coach/defensive coordinator Joe Lorig has been named as one of three finalists for the FootballScoop Division II Coordinator of the Year, it was announced Tuesday.

Lorig, a native of Edmonds and a 1995 graduate of Western Oregon State College, is in his second year as the assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at CWU. He guided the Wildcat defense to the number one national ranking in Division II in scoring defense in 2009, as Central Washington allowed just 11.9 points per game. The Wildcats also ranked third nationally in Division II in rushing defense and fourth in total defense.

Other finalists for the Division II Coordinator of the Year award are Scott Preston, offensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech University, and Bob Crocker, defensive coordinator at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Nominations for the award are made by their coaching peers.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for their choice for the top coordinator in Division II football online at www.footballscoop.com. Voting ends next Sunday (Dec. 13), with the announcement of the winner the following day. While on-line voting will be considered, an award panel of current and former coaches, plus previous recipients of the award, will evaluate the finalists and select the winner.
