LACEY (Jan. 28) -- Junior Jenn Jacobs (Bremerton) scored 19 points in her first start of the season, and senior Sara Bergner (Bellingham) added 18 points as the Central Washington University women's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 78-69 win over Saint Martin's University on Thursday night at Marcus Pavilion.

The Wildcats improved to 5-11 overall and 2-4 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, while the Saints fell to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the GNAC.

Central had its best night of the season in all three shooting categories, making 55.1 percent from the floor, 9 of 18 from three-point range, and 83.3 percent at the free throw line.

The Wildcats used a 7-0 run late in the first half to overcome their final deficit of the period -- a 27-25 count with 2:48 to go -- and held a 32-31 lead at halftime. Central led for most of the second half, but after trailing 59-58 with 5:23 remaining, they went on a 16-4 run over the next 4:14 to post its biggest lead of the game at 12 points with just over a minute left.

Jacobs, who made just her eighth career start and her first since Feb. 5, 2009, made 6 of 11 field goals and was a perfect 6 for 6 at the free throw line as Central was 15 of 18 at the stripe. Bergner added 18 points on 6 of 10 shooting, including 2 of 3 three-pointers, and was the team's leading rebounder with seven boards. Junior Colleen Betteridge (Seattle/Chief Sealth HS) came off the bench and scored 10 points with a team-high three three-pointers and five assists, helping the CWU bench outscore the Saint Martin's reserves by a 22-4 count.

Eight of the nine Central Washington players to appear in the game scored, including sophomore Donisha Calhoun (Puyallup/Emerald Ridge HS), who made her first two collegiate field goal attempts -- both three-pointers -- and scored six points after being activated from redshirt status prior to last Thursday's game against Western Washington.

Three Saint Martin's players scored in double figures, including game-high totals of 24 points and nine rebounds by Dara Zack, while fellow forward Krissy Bassett had 16 points and seven boards for the Saints.

Central Washington continues its weekend road swing with a Saturday evening (Jan. 30) visit to Montana State Billings. The Wildcats then return home next Thursday (Feb. 4) to face nationally-ranked Seattle Pacific beginning at 5:15 p.m. Pacific Standard Time at Nicholson Pavilion.
