Box Score

ELLENSBURG (Nov. 9) -- Central Washington University senior Drew Harris (Yakima/Eisenhower HS) had 18 points, eight rebounds, and six assists, and was one of six Wildcats to score in double figures, as the Wildcat men's basketball team defeated Washington Athletic Club, 96-84, on Tuesday night at Nicholson Pavilion.

Harris made seven of his nine shot attempts of the game including three-of-four three pointers. Forwards Jody Johnson (Seattle/Franklin HS) and Jamar Berry (Tacoma/Franklin Pierce HS) scored 17 and 13 points, respectively, while senior Chris Sprinker (Tacoma/Curtis HS) secured a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were Humberto Perez (Yakima/A.C. Davis HS) with 15 points and Coby Gibler (Bainbridge Island/Bainbridge HS) with 12.

The Wildcat defense held its opponent to 38.6 percent shooting for the night, however, the WAC converted 22 of 27 shots from the free throw line.

Washington Athletic Club, made up of former collegiate players and based in Seattle, controlled the first 6:35 of the first half as Central was unable to take a lead. But at the 13:25 mark, Johnson laid in a pass from Gibler to give the Wildcats a one-point advantage. Central benefited from hot shooting the rest of the half, and never trailed for the remainder of the game. Central Washington drained eight of 15 three point attempts in the first half and built a 12-point halftime lead.

Sprinker scored all of his 12 points after halftime, helping the Wildcats build a 21-point lead midway through the second half. The Wildcat offense would cool off late in the second half, as they only made five field goals in the final 9:55 of the game. However, they sank 10 of 13 from the free throw line in the second half and walked away with the 12-point victory.

The Washington Athletic Club was led by former University of Washington forward Hans Gasser, who had a game-high 23 points, nine of which came from the free throw line.

Central Washington will open its 2010-11 season this Saturday as it hosts Quest University Canada of Squamish, B.C., at 7 p.m. in Nicholson Pavilion.
