Wildcat Basketball on FSN Northwest Again Tonight

Central Travels to Western for Fourth Straight Regionally-Televised Game

ELLENSBURG (Feb. 16) -- The Central Washington University men's basketball team will make its second appearance of the season on Fox Sports Net (FSN) Northwest tonight, as the Wildcats look to secure the number one seed in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Tournament against rival Western Washington University at 7 p.m.

The Wildcats, 20-2 overall and ranked ninth nationally in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II poll, will be playing their fourth consecutive regionally-televised game including their second in as many weeks on FSN Northwest. The other two games during that four-game span -- Feb. 5 versus Northwest Nazarene and Feb. 12 versus Montana State Billings -- were seen in eastern Washington and northern Idaho on the Spokane-based SWX. Last Wednesday's home game against Seattle Pacific was seen on FSN Northwest -- marking the first-ever telecast from Nicholson Pavilion by the regional network that can be seen in five states. CWU had a near-capacity crowd for its 63-53 victory over the Falcons.

Central Washington (13-1 GNAC) comes into tonight's game in the midst of an 11-game winning streak. The Wildcats' last loss came on Dec. 30 against Alaska Anchorage, and they are undefeated (7-0) in away games this year. Conversely, Western Washington (15-7, 10-4 GNAC), which sits three games behind Central in the GNAC standings, has not lost in 10 home games this season.

CWU won the first meeting of the season between the two schools, 86-73, on Jan. 20 in front of a capacity crowd at Nicholson Pavilion. The Wildcats lead the all-time series against their arch rivals, 152-90, and are looking for their fifth regular-season-series sweep of the Vikings in head coach Greg Sparling's 16 seasons as head coach.

Leading the Wildcats are four players scoring in double figures, while a fifth -- senior point guard Drew Harris (Yakima/Eisenhower HS) -- is averaging 9.9 points per game. Senior Jamar Berry (Tacoma/Franklin Pierce HS; 16.3 ppg), senior center Chris Sprinker (Tacoma/Curtis HS; 13.8 ppg), junior forward Jody Johnson (Seattle/Franklin HS; 10.4 ppg), and senior guard Humberto Perez (Yakima/A.C. Davis HS; 10.4 ppg) all score in double figures for a Central squad that is averaging 80.2 points per game this season. Senior Chris Scott (Las Vegas, Nev./Bonanza HS), this week's GNAC Player of the Week, joins Johnson and senior Coby Gibler (Bainbridge Island/Bainbridge HS) as top reserves for CWU.

The Wildcats have already locked up a home game in the quarterfinal round of the inaugural GNAC Tournament, which begins Feb. 28. Their magic number to clinch the top seed for the eight-team tourney is two, meaning that a win over Western Washington would secure no worse a tie for the GNAC regular-season title -- which would be the program's first conference title in men's basketball since the 1999-2000 season as a member of the Pacific West Conference.

In conjunction with tonight's FSN Northwest contest, the video streaming will not be available in the television viewing area of FSN Northwest, which includes Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
