Johnson's Career Night Sparks 18-Point Win over Simon Fraser

Senior Scores 21 First-Half Points, Finishes with 33 and 13 Rebounds

BURNABY, B.C. (Jan. 21) -- Senior Jody Johnson (Seattle/Franklin HS) scored a career-high 33 points and hauled down 13 rebounds, leading the Central Washington University men's basketball team to a 101-83 victory over host Simon Fraser University on Saturday night.

The Wildcats, who scored over 100 points for the second time in their last three games, edged back above the .500 mark with a 9-8 record on the season, and now stand at 3-6 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Simon Fraser fell to 6-11 and 1-8 in GNAC.

Johnson, whose previous scoring high had been 26 points, scored 21 points in the first half helping Central to a 50-35 halftime advantage. Central made 50 percent of its shots in the opening period and was 12 of 15 from the free throw line.

Central's offensive efficiency was even more impressive in the second half, when they shot 61.3 percent and led by as many as 24 points. Sophomore Kevin Davis (Federal Way/Todd Beamer HS) scored 15 points in the second half on 6 of 9 shooting, and Johnson made all six of his second-half shots.

The Wildcats finished with a field goal percentage of 55.4 (36 of 65), and shot 78.6 percent from the free throw line (22 of 28). The Clan shot a respectable 47.0 percent from the field but made just 8 of their 30 three-point attempts on the evening. Central also had an overwhelming 42-28 rebounding advantage, with 17 of those caroms coming on the offensive end of the court, which resulted in 26 second-chance points. 

Sophomore Lacy Haddock (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) scored 21 points on 6 of 9 shooting, and made 7 of 8 shots from the charity stripe. Haddock has now scored 20 or more points in four of Central's last five games, and is shooting 70.3 percent (26 of 37) over his past three games.

Davis finished with 17 points and tied a career-high with six blocks. Junior Jordan Coby (Tacoma/Wilson HS) scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, finishing with 14 points including 12 from three-point range.

Simon Fraser was led by forward Jordan Sergent, who had a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, and guard Justin Brown added 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting.

Central Washington will return to Ellensburg next week for two 7 p.m. matchups with Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday (Jan. 26) and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday (Jan. 28). In Nicholson Pavilion.
