SEATTLE (Feb. 11) -- Sophomore LACY HADDOCK (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) scored a team-high 18 points, but the Central Washington University men's basketball team shot 35.9 percent from the field and made just 3 of 16 shots from three-point range in suffering a 72-64 loss to host Seattle Pacific University on Saturday evening at Brougham Pavilion.

The Wildcats are now 11-11 overall, falling to 5-9 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Seattle Pacific improved to 19-5 and 11-4 in the GNAC, completing a sweep of the two-game season series with CWU for the first time since 2003-04.

Central took a one-point lead twice within the first 3:07, but a three-pointer by Falcons forward Jobi Wall at the 16:44 mark in the first half gave SPU a two-point advantage, and the home team never trailed for the remainder of the contest. Seattle Pacific led by as many as 10 points in the opening period and entered halftime with a 38-31 advantage.

Seattle Pacific took a 10-point lead on two different occasions in the second half before the Wildcats went on a small 6-0 run to cut the SPU lead to three at 59-56 with 5:18 remaining. SPU rallied again to take another 10-point lead with 34 seconds remaining, and the Falcons made nine of their final 12 free throws.

The Wildcats made more field goals than the Falcons (23-20), but SPU outscored CWU by 12 at the free throw line where they were 27 of 40, while Central was 15 of 21. Seattle Pacific also held a commanding 47-35 advantage in rebounds and had a 13-5 edge in second chance points. 

Central Washington played solid defense in the contest, holding the Falcons to 41.7 percent shooting from the field, while forcing 16 turnovers which the Wildcats converted into 17 points. 

Haddock was 8 of 19 from the field, had two of the Wildcats' nine steals on the evening. He led the team in scoring for the third straight contest. Senior JODY JOHNSON (Seattle/Franklin HS) scored 15 points and hauled down a team-high seven rebounds, and senior ROBY CLYDE (Connell/Pasco HS) added 13 points in 18 minutes of action.

Sophomore David Downs scored a game-high 23 points for SPU, making 3 of his 4 three-point attempts and made all 10 of his free throws. Junior Andy Poling added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Central Washington will return to action next week with its final two home games of the season. The Wildcats open the weekend on Thursday (Feb. 16) against Simon Fraser University, followed by Senior Night on Saturday (Feb. 18) versus archrival Western Washington University. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. inside Nicholson Pavilion.
