LACEY (Feb. 23) -- Central Washington University sophomore Kevin Davis (Federal Way/Todd Beamer HS) scored a career-high 27 points on 12 of 16 shooting, but the Wildcat men's basketball team shot just 51.4 percent from the foul line and 2 of 14 from three-point territory in a 99-84 loss to Saint Martin's University at Marcus Pavilion.

Central Washington falls to 13-12 on the season and 7-10 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, and still holds a one-game lead on Northwest Nazarene University for the sixth and final spot in the GNAC tournament. The Saints improved to 9-17, 5-12 in the GNAC, snapping an eight-losing streak.

The Wildcats -- who played without starting point guard and leading scorer Lacy Haddock (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS), who missed the game due to a knee injury sustained early in last week's 89-82 win over Western Washington and is listed as day-to-day -- shot just under their season average of 46.2 percent from the field, making 32 of 70 shots from the field for a shooting percentage of 45.7. Saint Martin's, however, shot 59.6 percent from the field and converted on 31 of its 39 free throw attempts, outscoring the Wildcats by 13 points from the charity stripe on just five more attempts.

Central Washington got a boost from its bench in the first half, as Davis and junior Brandon Magee (Spanaway/Bethel HS) subbed into the game and combined to score 28 of the team's 41 first-half points. The Saints shot 63 percent (17 of 27) to take a 48-41 lead at halftime.

CWU got to within two points in the first 94 seconds of the second half but were unable to regain a lead, and trailed by as many as 17 points in the period. The Wildcats were outscored 51-43 after the intermission.

Despite the Wildcats' woes from the free throw line, where they were 18 of 35, they hauled down 18 offensive rebounds, which they converted into 19 second-chance points, and the CWU bench outscored the Saints' reserves 52-9. 
  
In addition to Davis' 27-point outburst, Magee added 13 points -- all in the first half -- and senior Roby Clyde (Connell/Pasco HS) scored 11 points on 4 of 6 shooting.  

Saint Martin's center Jeremy Green scored a game-high 34 points on 12 of 17 shooting, leading the Saints to their highest scoring output of the season. Roger O'Neil and Brok Pendleton added 22 and 16 points, respectively, as the SMU starters accounted for 90 of the team's 99 points.  

Central Washington will wrap up the regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon as they visit Monmouth, Ore. for a 2 p.m. matchup with Western Oregon University.
