ELLENSBURG (Sept. 25) -- Poor air quality in the Kittitas Valley has prompted the Central Washington University athletic department to move its home football game against Humboldt State University this Saturday, Sept. 29, from the CWU campus to Bothell, Wash. Kickoff has also been moved to 6 p.m. This is the second straight Wildcat home game that CWU has moved to Pop Keeney Stadium.
“We had a fantastic turnout last Saturday when we played Azusa Pacific there,” said
Jack Bishop, CWU athletics director, “and we hope to see even more fans this Saturday. We hate to have to move the game, but the forecast is for poor air quality and we just won't subject our players, their players, or the fans to that.”
Pop Keeney Stadium is the Northshore School District's 4,500-seat stadium, which is home to the Bothell, Inglemoor, and Woodinville high school football teams. A total of 2,300 fans were in attendance last Saturday, when the Wildcats beat Azusa Pacific 41-17.
CWU (3-1, 3-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) and HSU (4-0, 3-0 GNAC) are the only unbeaten teams left in conference play.
Previously purchased tickets will be honored at the gate. Tickets will also be available at the stadium. For those not able to attend, an audio broadcast and live statistics will be available through the CWU Athletics web site at www.wildcatsports.com.
CWU's other fall sports teams are all on the road this coming week, with volleyball heading to Seattle Pacific University on Thursday and Montana State University Billings on Saturday. The women's soccer squad visits Saint Martin's University on Thursday and Western Oregon University on Saturday. Cross country runners will participate Saturday in the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore., and the Pacific Lutheran University Invitational in Tacoma.
