The first of back-to-back road games to complete the 2013 football season awaits the Central Washington University Wildcats on Saturday as they visit Western Oregon University for a 1 p.m. start at McArthur Field in Monmouth, Ore.

CWU comes into the game with a 6-3 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference games. That league records leaves the Wildcats one game behind Azusa Pacific University (7-2, 7-1 GNAC) in the conference standings with two games remaining. Western Oregon, meanwhile, could still mathematically share the GNAC title, as the Wolves (5-4, 5-3 GNAC) are two games out of first place with two to play.

The Wildcats come into the game on the heels of a 21-14 victory over Humboldt State University in their home finale last Saturday at Tomlinson Stadium. CWU finished the home portion of its 2013 schedule with a 3-3 record, with just one of those six games being decided by more than seven points. Meanwhile, the Wildcats are undefeated in their three away games this season, having claimed wins at Azusa Pacific University (7-3 on Sept. 28), Humboldt State (21-13 on Oct. 5), and Simon Fraser University (54-14 on Oct. 19).

Redshirt freshman quarterback JAKE NELSON (Lake Stevens) is coming off his best all-around performance in a Wildcat uniform last Saturday, when he completed 15 of 22 passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a career-high 66 yards en rote to GNAC/Red Lion Hotels Offensive Player of the Week honors. CWU had a balanced offensive attack in the win over Humboldt State, with a three-headed rushing attack of Nelson, CHARLES HALL JR. (Hinesville, Ga./Lakes HS), and BRYCE DAVIS (Auburn) combining for 196 rushing yards between them. Sophomore JORDAN TODD (Bellevue/Interlake HS), the second-leading rusher in the GNAC, did not play against the Lumberjacks while continuing to recover from an injury in the Azusa Pacific game on Oct. 26. Todd, who has run for 933 yards in eight games played this season, is expected back against Western Oregon on Saturday.

Defensively, CWU continued its strong showing by holding Humboldt State to 227 yards of total offense. A balanced effort, led by the tackling of junior linebacker JB TORSY (Mission Viejo, Calif./Trabuco Hills HS) and the takeaway efforts of senior safety STAN LANGLOW (University Place) helped CWU secure three takeaways and record 10 tackles for losses. Torsy had a team-high seven stops including two for losses, while Langlow forced a fumble and netted a 47-yard interception return. Sophomore linebacker JOJO BROOKS (Seattle/O'Dea HS) had a fumble recovery as well, and sophomore cornerback ISAIAH DAVIS (Bremerton/South Kitsap HS) recorded his sixth interception of the year -- four of which have come against Humboldt.

The Wildcats have owned the head-to-head series with Western Oregon in recent years, upping their all-time series lead to 33-17. CWU has won 18 of the last 19 meetings dating back to the 2002 season, with the only loss during that span coming in Monmouth by a 14-7 count two years ago. The Wildcats needed overtime to squeak out last year's battle with the Wolves at McArthur Field, taking a 21-14 decision.
