NAMPA, Idaho -- Junior Kelsie Williams (Gig Harbor/Peninsula HS) was fourth, and sophomore Juliana Joy (Seattle/John F. Kennedy HS) finished eighth in the women's indoor pentathlon as the Central Washington University track and field team opened the indoor portion of its 2013-14 schedule on Friday and Saturday at the Jackson's Open and Multi-Events.
Williams and Joy were the only two competitors at the meet from CWU, which will begin its indoor season in earnest on Jan. 18, 2014.
Williams accumulated 3,009 points in the five-event competition, while Joy totaled 2,661. The winning total in the pentathlon was 3,407 points by Charity Arn of George Fox University.
Williams, a transfer from Olympic College, has her top individual event finish in the long jump, where her mark of 5.24 meters (17 feet, 2 1/4 inches) was second-best and gave her 626 points. She was among the top five in all five of the sub-events.
Joy's top event finish was in the 60-meter hurdles, where her time of 9.87 seconds placed her sixth.
