Top 10 Moments of 2013-14: #4 Volleyball Competes at Regionals

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Aug.15) – For the second consecutive season the Central Washington University women's volleyball team advanced to the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament after completing the regular season with a 15-11 record, and an 11-7 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Their season started in California where they upended eventual top-seed Cal State San Bernardino and regional foe Cal Poly Pomona. The Wildcats continued their tough nonconference schedule by defeating Washburn and Fort Lewis before dropping two games to Colorado Mines and Grand Valley State. After their eight-game road trip the Wildcats had an even 4-4 record, but beat quality opponents and also lost to two teams who would eventually make the West Regional Tournament.

The Wildcats had a slow start to the GNAC portion of their schedule starting 2-4 in their first six games, but erupted to win five consecutive matches and nine of their last 12 to sneak their way into the eighth and final spot in the regional rankings, earning a trip to Cal State San Bernardino for a rematch with the top-seeded Coyotes.

Unfortunately the Wildcat lost to the Coyotes in the first round ending their season with a 15-12 record.

The season produced many individual accomplishments to round out a spectacular team effort. CATIE FRY and Kaley Kight were both named as GNAC First-Team selections. Fry was also earned AVCA All-West Region honorable mention recognition, which earned her AVCA All-American status.

"This team had some ups and downs, but fortunately for us our ups outweighed our downs when it came to deciding which teams were selected to the NCAA Tournament. I was really proud of how well our young team competed against the region's best opponents. We come into 2014 with some unfinished business to attend to. At this point, just making the tournament isn't enough." – Head Coach Mario Andaya
