SEATTLE, Wash. (Jan. 17) – The Central Washington University women's basketball team lost 50-64 to a Seattle Pacific University team who shot 54-percent from the field Saturday night in Brougham Pavilion.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 9-7 on the season and 4-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The nationally ranked Falcons improve to 14-1 on the season, 6-1 in the conference
Seattle Pacific used runs of 6-0 and 7-0 to build a 21-12 first half lead with over eight minutes left in the half. The Wildcats clawed back with a 7-0 run of their own on a three-pointer by
Melanie Valdez and a pair of jump shots by
Jasmin Edwards and Jasmin Parker to pull to within six points of the Falcons.
The Flacons took a 32-27 lead into halftime. Parker had 12 first half points, and the Wildcats shot 39.3 percent in the stanza. The Wildcats managed to be in just a five-point hole despite being outrebounded 22-14 in the half and leading scorer
Courtney Johnson being held scoreless on four attempts.
Seattle Pacific jumped out to a 12-point second half lead within the first 10 minutes of the period. The Wildcats just couldn't find a way to make a run and get any closer throughout the remainder of the half losing 67-52.
Parker led the Wildcats with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and grabbed 9 rebounds. Edwards was the only other CWU player to score in double-figures with 11.
The red-hot Falcons shot a sizzling 54-percent (27-of 50) from the field including 7-of-14 from behind the arc. Suzanna Ohlsen who scored 17 points, followed by Aubree Callen and Maddey Pflaumer who scored 16 and 14 respectively, led Seattle Pacific.
Up next the Wildcats travel to Nampa, Idaho to play Northwest Nazarene next Saturday.
