ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Oct. 3) – The Central Washington women's rugby team played at home on the Wildcat Rugby Pitch for the first time this season, but proved to be in mid-season form as they defeated Washington State University 100-0 in a friendly matchup Saturday afternoon.

Central Washington Head Coach Melanie Denham played every available player in the match with 13 different players scoring a try in the contest.

Freshman Mckenzie Pusch scored bookended the Wildcats try's on the day scoring the first and final tallies of the match.  Pusch and fellow freshman Yana Manoa each scored twice on the day.

The opening score came in the 4th minute when Pusch took the ball 40 meters to the try zone.  Four minutes later Rosalind Pena upped the CWU advantage to 12-0 on a goal line push with a little help from her teammates.

One of the more impressive plays of the day came in the 13th minutes when Cassidy Meyers ran 25 meters for a score duping an opposing tackler with a ball fake that turned the defender around and gave the junior a clear path to the try zone.

Before the first of four breaks in the friendly matchup the Wildcats built a 31-0 lead with Leah Ingold and Valerie Tobin each touching down for a score.

Less than 30 seconds after the break Cassidy Meyers once again broke the Cougar defense for a open try, but the Covington native wanted to get her teammates involved and tossed the ball to Ashley Rolsma who recorded the try.

Coco Staffings ended the first half scoring frenzy with a try in the 41st minute and after one of Katerina Long's nine conversions on the day, CWU lead 76-0 going into halftime.

Long opened the second half scoring with a penalty kick.  Central Washington scored one try between the third and fourth breaks in action with the tally going to Mele Halahuni in the 54th minutes.

In the final frame freshman Emma Leonard and Pusch each scored a try and Ingold added two conversions to give the Wildcats the final 100-0 win.
