ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Oct. 5) – Central Washington University sophomore linebacker
Kevin Haynes has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the football team's 24-21 victory over Azusa Pacific. The Wildcats are now riding a three-game winning streak as they have improved their record to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the GNAC.
Haynes totaled 10 tackles; three pass breakups, two sacks ,and a forced fumble. His forced fumble came at the most opportune time, popping the ball lose from the Cougar ball carrier on the Wildcats' one yard line with CWU up 24-21 late in the fourth quarter.
Despite missing the first game of the season Haynes still leads the Wildcats in tackles with 27 including 16 solo tackles.
Haynes becomes the first Wildcats to win the defensive play of the week award this season.
