PALO ALTO, Cali., (March. 29) – The Central Washington University women's rugby team will depart Stanford University with two wins in the Pacific Mountain Conference playoffs having defeated California State University Chico Saturday, and winning a second-round match up versus University of California Davis on Sunday by a score of 57-10.
 
"I'm proud of how far we have come as a team," Head coach Mel Denham said. "I can't wait to see what we grow into as we continue to approach our final destination."
 
The final destination could be in sight for the Wildcats as the win advances the team into the regional tournament that will be held on April 11-12 at Stanford University.
 
The Wildcats used five first half trys to put UC Davis away in the Sunday match up. After a quick score by the Aggies, the Wildcats answered with trys from Carrie Vaillancourt in the 7^th minute and again two minutes later when Heather Johnson drove her way into the try zone on a team-oriented score to give the Wildcats the lead.
 
Cassidy Meyers would score the first of her two trys in the 26^th minute to inflate the Wildcat lead to 19-10.
 
"We knew UC Davis would be a physical battle so we came out and set the tone early," Denham said. "We had some penalties against us early on, but we were able to make adjustments and once we got into the game we were able to gain some momentum and play our game."
 
The Wildcats put the game away in the second half when Angela Ve'Evalu scored trys two and three on the day to give her a hat-trick.
 
"Asinate Serevi had a great game and really helped the team stay composed under pressure," Denham said. "Suliana Tausinga had a great weekend all around, and was seemingly everywhere around the field."
