BURNABY, BC Canada (Mar. 7) -- Sophomore shortstop
Taylor Ferleman hit a two-run home run in extra innings to break up a 1-1 tie to lead the Central Washington University softball team to a 3-1 win in game one at Simon Fraser University. In game two
Lindsey Kamphuis tossed a complete game shutout and completed a sweep of the Clan with a 7-0 victory.
Central Washington opens its Great Northwest Athletic Conference season with a 2-0 record and an 8-5 record overall. With two losses Simon Fraser drops to 8-8, 0-2 in the GNAC.
Game One – 3-1 Win – Taylor Ferleman Game-Winning Two-Run Homerun. The first game of the double-header featured a pitching duel between CWU starter
Kiana Wood (4-1) and SFU ace Kelsie Hawkins. Wood gave up just three hits through eight innings of work, unfortunately that one hit was a solo homerun in the fifth inning.
It took until the final inning for the Wildcats to score their first run of the game and force extra innings.
Austin Wilkerson led off the inning with a walk and pinch runner
Michaela Hazlett eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Wood.
In the eighth inning
Sammy Morris reached base on an infield single and Ferleman followed with her game-winning big fly to dead centerfield to give the Wildcats the final 3-1 advantage.

Game Two – 7-0 Win – Lindsey Kamphuis CG Shutout The floodgates opened early for the CWU offense scoring four runs on a pair of doubles by
Kailyn Campbell and
Laura Steiner, each of which scored two runs.
Morris added one more run on a single scoring
Celine Fowler, and in the fifth inning Steiner and
Remy Bradley drove in the sixth and seventh runs of the contest.
Kamphuis was dominant in the circle for the Wildcats, throwing all seven innings, allowing just five hits while fanning six. Kamphuis improves to 3-3 on the season, and earns her third complete came of the season and her first career shutout.
