BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Mar. 8) – The Central Washington softball team saw its offense go cold as they dropped both games of its double header with Western Washington University by scores of 7-1 and 5-1.
The Wildcats (8-7, 2-2 GNAC) had six hits in each game but were unable to piece together runs or extra base hits collecting 12 singles on the day. The Vikings (10-7, 3-3 GNAC) had 17 hits on the day, seven of which were extra base hits.
The Wildcats played without their top hitter,
Taylor Ferleman who was hit in the hand by a pitch yesterday. Ferleman leads the team with 5 doubles and a .447 batting average.
Game One – 7-1 Loss The Vikings offense scored seven runs in the first four innings highlighted by a four run fourth inning where WWU first baseman Emily Benson hit a base clearing double, driving in three runs and building a 7-0 lead over the Wildcats.
The Wildcats began to chip away at the deficit when
Sammy Morris led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a single by
Andrea Hamada. That would be the only score for the Wildcats in the contest as WWU starting pitcher Makinlee Sellevold gave up just six hits and struck out five Wildcats to pick up the win.

Game Two – 5-0 Loss Western Washington pieced together a run in the second inning, but neither team was able to manage much else until the sixth inning. In the sixth WWU scored four runs on three hits and a Wildcat error.
Prior to the sixth innings, CWU starting pitcher
Lindsey Kamphuis held the Vikings to just four hits with seven strikeouts. Of the five runs the freshman gave up, just one was earned.
The Wildcat offense got active in the seventh inning with singles
Austin Wilkerson and
Laura Steiner, but
Andrea Hamada lined into a double-play and
Katie Focher reached on a fielders choice that caught
Haley Fritz out on the play to end the inning and the game at the final 5-0 mark.
