LACEY, Wash (May. 2) – The Central Washington University track and field team faired well at the Saint Martin's Track Invitational as the women's team captured a first place finish and the men's a second place finish.
The next event will be the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships set to be held in Monmouth, Ore. at Western Oregon University.
The women's team tied GNAC foe Seattle Pacific for the first spot in the event with 145 points, edging out host Saint Martin's who took third with 136 points.
The win was highlighted by a first place finish in the 100-meter hurdles by
Tianna Banfro. She also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles.
Natalie Bergstrom edged out
Dani Eggleston in the 3000-meter steeplechase by .01 seconds to give the Wildcats the top-two finishers in the race.
McKenna Emmert placed third overall in Pole Vault clearing 3.38 meters.
The men's team gathered 117 points for a second place finish behind Saint Martin's 183 points.
Garret Steuk and
Devin Kelly finished fifth and sixth in the 100-meter dash.
John Wojtech captured a second place finish in the 800-meter run as
Kaleb Javier was the first person to cross the finish line in the 1500-meter run.
The second place win was highlighted by first place finishes from the combination of Ron Leaf,
Kieran Sprague, Dylan Darlington and
Brent Christianson in the 4x400 meter relay,
Brian McElroy in the triple jump and
Bryan Moon's first place throw of 52.53 meters in the javelin.
