ELLENSBURG, Wash (May. 19) – The Central Washington University rugby program will send both the men's and women's teams to Denver, CO to compete in the USA Rugby Collegiate 7's National Championship that will begin May 23.
"We are ready to transition into 7's," Head coach
Tony Pacheco said. "It's a different game and I'm interested to see how sharp we are going to be because we have been in 15's mode for the past five months."
The men's team saw its last action in a 35-8 loss in Provo, UT in a Varsity Cup semifinal matchup against eventual 15's champion, BYU. As for the women's team, they saw their last action in the National Championship game versus Penn State University.
"It'll be very important to build throughout the tournament," Pacheco added. "Some of the better teams have been playing 7's all spring. Our biggest challenge will be getting back into the swing of 7's because we haven't had as much prep time."
All 7's matchups will be live streamed on
usarugbytv.com as the finals for the tournament will be aired live on ESPN 3, May. 24.
