Women's Rugby Prepared for National Championship Showdown with Penn State

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (May. 7) – The Central Washington University women's rugby team, in just its first year as a varsity program, is preparing to play Penn State University on May 9., for the USA Division I National Championship at Kennesaw State University in Atlanta, Ga.

The Wildcats road to the National Championship started in the Pacific Mountain Conference Tournament where they defeated Chico State, UC Davis (twice) and Stanford by a combined score of 254 to 24, earning a trip to the USA Spring Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa.

In the spring championships the Wildcats used come-from-behind efforts against both Life University and BYU to punch their ticket to the National Championship

Penn State earned a spot in the championship game by winning its fall season earlier in the year.

The two teams have just one common opponent in Quinnipiac University.  The Wildcats faced off with Quinnipiac back in October, winning the match 22-17 in the final minutes.  Penn State played the Bobcats on Dec. 6, winning 35-12 in the USA Rugby DI Fall Regional Semifinal.

The game will kickoff at 11 a.m. PDT and will be streamed live at USArugbytv.com.  For live twitter updates follow @CWUAthletics and @CWURugbyWomen.
