Portland, OR (Jan. 28) –
Joey Roppo scored a career-high 29 points to help lead the Central Washington University men's basketball team to a 102-75 win over Concordia University.
The Wildcats complete the season sweep of the Cavaliers, moving their overall record to 12-4 and 7-4 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Concordia falls to 5-13 and 3-8 in league.
"The guys shot the lights out today, from start to finish," CWU Head Coach
Greg Sparling said. "When we get going like that we are hard to stop. In our first meeting with Concordia we played the same way for about 30 minutes, but tonight we put together a full game."
The Wildcats offense was clicking all night as six different players scored in double figures. As a team, the Wildcats shots 55.1 percent from the floor and recorded an assist on 20 of the teams 69 shots.
"We didn't get out in transition as much as we would have liked tonight, much of that credit goes to the Concordia defense," Sparling said. "But we were able to force a lot of turnovers and capitalized on the extra possessions for the majority of the game."
Central went into the break with 58-30 after Dawn nailed a three-pointer at the top of the key. He finished the night with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Roppo jump-started the Wildcats offense in the second half scoring the team's first seven points. He then assisted Stroud on an alley-oop dunk to give the visitors a 67-30 lead.
"Roppo has been a solid shooter for us all year, his numbers tonight are no surprise to us," Sparling said of his senior guard. "He has consistently knocked down the open shot, and really stepped up tonight with
Gary Jacobs on the bench."
Jacobs was a game time scratch with a lower body injury.
Desmond Ross got the nod with his first start as Wildcat. He ended the night with three points, one rebound and two assists.
Stroud's 17 points along with
Drake Rademacher's 12 helped the Wildcat earn a 44-28 advantage in the paint.
Drew Martin led the Cavailers in scoring with 22 points making seven of his 13 shots.
The Wildcats' 102 points tonight broke the century mark for the fourth time this season.
"We have another big game in front of us," Sparling added. "Hopefully we can heal up, and carry this momentum into Saturday night."
The Wildcats will conclude their road trip with a game against No. 4 Western Oregon University (Jan. 30).
