NORTHFIELD, Vt.- The Central Washington University women's rugby team defeated Norwich University by a score of 85-18, Saturday morning.
"First half Norwich came out strong and challenged our execution under pressure," CWU head coach
Mel Denham said. "We were able to dominate possession, but some handling errors made it difficult to gain much momentum and get the ball into space. Second half we were making better decisions with ball in hand, gained the momentum we needed to capitalize on opportunities."
With the score 29-15 in favor of the Wildcats at halftime, the Wildcats made some favorable adjustments to score 56 points in the second half.
Senior
Cassidy Meyers led the Wildcat's high-powered attack. Meyers recorded team-high three tries on the afternoon and added one conversion.
True freshman Suiluana A'au also played well for the Wildcats, continuing her impressive 2016 campaign. A'au posted her second straight match with multiple tries.
Nine Wildcats crossed the try line in total for Central.
Leading the CWU defensive effort was junior Fumie Reyes. Playing the twelfth position for the Wildcats, Reyes excelled at stopping the ball from getting past Norwich's centers.
Senior
Rosalind Pena made an impact in the second half for Central, disrupting the Cadet's ball at the back of the scrum.
The Wildcats will conclude their east coast swing tomorrow with a match against American International College in Springfield, Mass.
