ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Oct. 15) – The Central Washington University women's rugby team took down Quinnipiac University in a tight 19-12 victory. The Wildcats are 2-0 at home this season after their win over the Bobcats.
Quinnipiac had not lost since the Bobcats fell to Central on Oct. 18, 2015.
The Bobcats found the score sheet first. Flora Poole found space through the Wildcats' defense and gave Quinnipiac a 5-0 lead.
Central responded in the 29
th minute.
Yana Manoa found Kathlena Truong on the right wing and Truong scampered in for the try.
A few short minutes later the Wildcats added to the score line. Suiluana A'au broke through the Bobcat defense and went over the try line for her first try of the day.
Cassidy Meyers made the conversion attempt for a 12-5 lead.
The Wildcats added to their advantage in the 40
th minute. The Wildcats gained possession out of a scrum and
Leah Ingold offloaded to Meyers, who broke free and grounded the ball in try. Meyers than notched her second conversion and a 19-5 lead.
Quinnipiac pulled the score close with a try in the 43
rd minute, shortly after halftime, but the Bobcats were kept out of the try zone by the Wildcats' staunch defense.
The Wildcats are back in action on Oct. 22 in Ellensburg against Brigham Young University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
