ELLENSBURG, Wash.- The Central Washington University women's rugby team is set to host Washington State University, Saturday (Oct. 29) when the Cougars come to town to play a friendly match. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. PST at the Wildcat Rugby Pitch.
"Since moving to the NIRA Varsity Championship league, we have not seen any of our PMRC opponents yet this year," CWU head coach
Mel Denham said. "We are incredibly grateful to have a positive relationship with WSU, where we can continue to compete and help each other develop. As far as our mindset, this match is another opportunity for us to progress towards our goal of being the best team that we can be."
The Wildcats are coming off an impressive performance against regional power house Brigham Young University. Central led from start to finish behind an explosive offensive attack, winning the match 62-12. Junior
Asinate Serevi highlighted CWU's play, recording three tries on the afternoon. A number of the second-half tries were set up by
Yana Manoa, who put an end to many BYU possessions with her tackling and set her teammates up for line breaks.
"The momentum we want to carry is in continuing to getting the little things right," Denham explained. "If we can keep our focus on the small stuff we will find success."
