MONMOUTH, Ore. (Oct. 9) – A wet and overcast day in Monmouth, Oregon did not dissuade the No. 25 Central Washington University soccer team's offense as the Wildcats rolled to a 3-1 victory over Western Oregon University.  The win completed the season series sweep of the Wolves for Central Washington and improved the Wildcats' record to 9-2-1 overall, with a 5-1-1 record in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  The Wolves fall to 4-8-0 overall and 1-6-0 in GNAC play.

The Wildcats have not swept the season series against Western Oregon since 2011.
 
Keilin Farrand put the Wildcats on the board first in the 18^th minute.  The Wildcats drove into the attacking third where Meghan Ward's shot was parried by Caitlin Kastelic.  The rebound careened toward Farrand who beat Kastelic for a 1-0 lead.
 
Farrand found the back of the net again in the 39^th minute.  Molly Mortensen gained space on the right flank and fed Farrand inside the box, where she chipped Kastelic for her second of the game and fourth of the season. 
 
The Wolves struck back in the final minute of the first half.  Dacia Alexander found Allison Sprecher 15 yards out and Sprecher laced a shot past Emily Holt, cutting the Wildcats' lead to 2-1.
 
Western Oregon started quick in the second half, earning a corner just 56 seconds into the second stanza.  A drive by Meli Cortez was blocked, generating a second corner opportunity.  The Wildcats' back line blocked a second chance at goal and snuffed out any remaining danger.
 
In the 49^th minute Mariah Konyn was issued a yellow card and, on the ensuing free kick, Mackenzie Nolte headed a ball goalward but Kastelic came up with the save. 
 
The Wildcats struck again in the 55^th minute.  Nolte raced in towards the box, cutting through the Wolves' back line and beat Kastelic with a well-placed shot for a 3-1 advantage.
 
"Offensively I think we did really well and got to the goal well," CWU Head Coach Mike Farrand said.  "The goals reflect that I think, Kei finished two goals inside the 12 on penetrating balls and Mac raced in to finish one as well.  We are still finishing goals and we have girls finishing at important times."
 
The Wildcats only allowed six shots, while they peppered Western Oregon with 23.
 
"I thought the girls responded really well in the second half," Farrand noted.  "It's a tough place to play and Steve always does a good job getting the girls ready to play.  They created two chances off the corner kicks and if we don't match the work rate you give up goals.  We responded well and were able to negate those chances."
 
The win keeps the Wildcats just one game out of first place, where Western Washington currently sits at 7-0-0 in the GNAC.

"It's a good result for us and I'm pleased with how we played," Farrand added.  "It was important for us to come down here and get a result to keep us in the conference mix."
 
Central is back at home on Thursday (Oct. 13) against Saint Martin's University for the Wildcats' Pink Game.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
