Men’s Basketball Travels to California for Season Opener

ELLENSBURG, Wash.- The Central Washington University men's basketball team will travel to Seaside, Calif. this weekend as they prepare to play Cal State San Bernardino (Nov. 11) and Cal State University Monterey Bay (Nov. 12).
 
Central Washington opens up its 2016-17 campaign in California for the first time under head coach Greg Sparling. They open with Cal State San Bernardino who finished the 2015-16 season with a 9-15 record and a 6-14 mark in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Coyotes bring back their top scorer in senior Everett Turner. Turner averaged 12.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game last season.
 
Senior guard Evan Zeller leads CSUMB after starting 21 of 23 games last season, helping the Otters to a 14-13 record, 12-8 in the CCAA. Zeller averaged 14.0 points per game and shot 40.7-percent from behind the arc.
 
This will be the 8th meeting between CSUSB and CWU, with the Coyotes holding a 4-3 edge in the all-time series. All but one of the contests have been a neutral site game, two of which in the post season.
 
As for the Otters, this will be the first meeting between CWU and CSUMB.
 
Central's matchup against Cal State San Bernardino is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m. PST on Friday, followed by another 5 p.m. tipoff on Saturday against CSUMB.
