ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-18) victory over Concordia University (Ore.) Saturday evening in Nicholson Pavilion.
It was also senior night for the Wildcats, and they said thank you and goodbye to
Kiah Jones,
Jordan Deming,
Erin Little, and
Lindsey Milner who played their final home games of their careers.
"We couldn't have asked for a better conclusion to this season," CWU Head Coach
Mario Andaya said. "Our seniors have been so resilient, positive, and competitive all season, and have lead us with a shot at the NCAA Tournament."
With the win the Wildcats finish with a 17-11 record, and a 13-7 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The Cavaliers end its season with a 15-13 record, 11-9 in the GNAC.
Central Washington entered this week's matches ranked 7
th in the NCAA Division II West Regional Polls, and with its two victories, sits in good shape to make its fifth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wildcats will have to wait till Monday night to see where they land and who they play in the first round.
Outside hitter,
Kiah Jones, finished with a game-high 12 kills, hitting at a .600 clip. Jones finished the game with two monster kills to sink the Cavaliers and put an exclamation point on her career.
"Kiah had her best match of the year, so it was so fitting she ended the match with two big hits," Andaya said about his senior. "Jordan and Erin had some monster blocks and Lindsey was clutch on the serve receive. More important though, we got the win, giving us a strong chance to extend our season. That, I know, will mean more to the seniors than this win alone."
Shelby Maurtison, who had 15 kills in CWU's 3-0 win over Western Oregon on Thursday, added 10 kills and six digs on the night.
The CWU block returned to its national leading form, totaling 16 blocks (5.33 per set), led by
Sabrina Wheelhouse with three total blocks, and Little with 3.5. Wheelhouse also added seven kills on the night.
As a team, the Wildcats hit .290 with just 13 attack errors to record their ninth sweep of the 2016 season.
Concordia hit just .104 and had 23 attack errors. The Cavaliers were led by Brenna Huwe with nine kills and Tori Johnson with eight.
After trailing 3-2 in the opening set the Wildcats went on a 5-0 run on the back of kills from Deming and Little to gain a 7-3 lead. The Cavaliers battled back to take a 12-10 lead before another 4-0 run by CWU gave the home team a lead that would stick for the remainder of the set.
The Cavaliers started the second set with a service error and two attack errors. The CU misfortune and kills by

Kiah Jones helped CWU take a 7-3 lead to open the set. The Wildcats used a five-point swing aided by more Cavalier errors to gain an 18-11 advantage enroute to the 25-15 set victory.
After trailing 1-0 to open the third set, the Wildcats took an early 2-1 lead and never looked back. CWU held Concordia to just .100 hitting in the third set and forced seven errors, taking the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
