ELLENSBURG, Wash. – All 11 Central Washington University men's basketball players scored as the Wildcats defeated Walla Walla University 97-74 Saturday evening in Nicholson Pavilion.
The Wildcats improve to 4-1 on the season, while the Wolves fall to 1-4.
Dom Hunter led all scorers with 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting, and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Naim Ladd followed closely behind with 20 points, making 6 of 12 shots from three-point territory.
A total of five Wildcats scored in double-figures with
Jawan Stepney adding 14, while
Terry Dawn and
Sage Woodruff added 13 and 12, respectively.
As a team, CWU shot 42.5 percent from the field and 39.0 percent from long range (16 of 41). The Wolves shot a respectable 40.3 percent from the field and drained 10 three pointers.
Walla Walla got 16 points and nine rebounds from forward Alec Calloway, with all of his points coming in the first half.
The Wildcats trailed 0-2 to start the game, but quickly took their first lead on a triple by Ladd. Central built a 10-point first-half lead on a pair of free throws by Hunter and back-to-back treys by Ladd and Woodruff extended CWU's lead to 15 at 30-15.
After holding a 22-point lead heading into the second half, the Wildcats stayed the course, leading by as many as 25 points before Walla Walla closed to within 15. Central Washington used a 15-2 run with James Moore and
Karsten Chaplik scoring in the process. Both buckets by More and Chaplik were the first scores of their careers. The Wolves scored the final six points of the ball game as the Wildcats walked away with the 97-74 victory.
The Wildcats return to action on Thursday, Dec. 1 when they play host to Alaska Anchorage as the team opens Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
