ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Dec. 17) – The Central Washington University women's basketball team fell in an exhibition to the University of Idaho, 45-79.
The Wildcats held the Vandals to just 14 points in both the first and fourth quarters. Central Washington shot 34.5 percent in the first half, including five points from both
JonNae Richardson and
Kortney Grattic.
Grattic finished with nine points and a team high eight rebounds, while Richardson picked up seven rebounds.
Taylor Baird led the Wildcats in scoring with 10 points. As a team the Wildcats recorded 35 rebounds, including 14 offensive rebounds. Idaho only recorded eight offensive rebounds.
Idaho converted on nine three-pointers. The Vandals shot 65.2 percent in the second half, including a 50 percent mark from beyond the arc. Idaho has taken 33 shots per game from beyond the arc this season, but settled for only 22 against the Wildcats.
The Wildcats recorded 24 points in the paint and seven points off of turnovers. Central's best quarter offensively came in the second with 16 points, 10 of which came in the paint. The Vandals recorded 38 points in the paint and 14 off of turnovers.
Central Washington recorded eight steals and two blocks. Baird notched three steals.
The Wildcats struggled shooting, compiling just a 28.6 shooting percentage and a 3-for-15 mark from beyond the arc. Central was 0-for-5 from beyond the arc in the first half, but
Beverly Verduin,
Sadie Mensing, and Grattic each converted a three in the second half.
The Wildcats are back in action on Thursday (Dec. 29) as they travel to Seattle Pacific for a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup. Central then heads to Lacey, Washington for another GNAC showdown with Saint Martin's University on Saturday (Dec. 31).
