PULLMAN, Wash. (Feb. 27) – The Central Washington University women's rugby team rolled over Washington State University, 89-0. The Wildcats remain undefeated in 15's play.
"First 15's match back, it took a little time to get into our new structure," CWU Head Coach
Mel Denham said. "By the end of the first half we were able to gain some momentum and see improvements from last fall."
Paige Wyatt opened the scoring for Central with a pair of tries.
Mckenzie Pusch added another, putting the Wildcats up 15-0.
Hannah Lewandowski put Central's fourth try on the board.
The end of the first half closed with a 53-0 score line. Six different Wildcats found their way onto the score sheet via tries or conversions.
Cassidy Meyers had a try and two conversions in the first half.
Leah Ingold recorded a try, while
Samantha Pinson went over the try line twice.
"We were also able to see new combinations," Denham added. "Which is important for us moving into the season.
Diandra Nault stepped up at lock and
Nicole Valli injected some fire in the back line at fullback."
It was more Central Washington in the second half. Lewandowski and Ingold added a second try each, while
Jennifer Johnson added a try of her own later.
Asinate Serevi and
Danielle Peterson found space and went over the try line for the Wildcats, while
Emma Leonard kicked two conversions.
The Wildcats continue their spring season with a pair of fixtures in Vancouver, British Columbia on March 12 and March 19. The first is a 7's match, before the Wildcats take on the University of British Columbia.
