ELLENSBURG, Wash (April. 6) – The Central Washington University women's rugby team will play host to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns this coming Saturday when both teams square off in a 15s matchup that is set to kickoff at 11 a.m.
The Pronghorns come to the Wildcat Rugby Pitch with a 2-6-1 record while the team looks for its first road win of the season, having dropped its three last road contests.
"We are looking forward to a competitive match against a quality team," Head coach
Mel Denham said. "Success in competitive matches is a matter of executing basic skills under pressure, and us getting the small things right consistently. And that's what we are setting out to do. Get the small things right, enjoy ourselves and continue to grow."
The Wildcats boast an 11-2 overall record and are coming off an impressive 12-7 win over regional powerhouse Brigham Young University nearly two weeks ago.
"We are excited to play a quality match," Denham added. "Having the University of Oregon cancel was an opportunity for us to train. The goal is to apply more pressure at training than we will face in games. We work on getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. That being said, we are excited for the match and a chance to test out what we have been working on. It will be fun, as we have a few Canadians on our team, one from Alberta. We are also looking forward to welcoming Ric Suggit, former USA women's 7s National head coach to Ellensburg and show the facilities and support from the University."
Following the women's match will be the first round of the Varsity Cup featuring the men's team against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). That match is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Both matches will be broadcasted on Wildcatsports.com.
