ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Jan. 12) – The Central Washington University women's basketball team fell to No. 7 University of Alaska Anchorage in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup, 86-48.
The Wildcats fall to 6-9 overall and hold a 1-6 mark in GNAC play. The Seawolves improve to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in conference competition.
Central Washington took an early 10-6 lead, but the Seawolves gained control with 4:32 remaining in the first half on a pair of free throws by Kiki Robertson.
The Wildcats shot 37.2 percent from the field, but only converted once from beyond the three-point line. Central Washington did, however, convert 15-of-24 times at the charity stripe.
Alaska Anchorage found its way deep into the Wildcats' pockets all throughout the contest. The Seawovles finished with 25 steals, including five from Robertson and four from both Autummn Williams and Yazmeen Goo. In total, the Wildcats finished with 36 turnovers. The Seawolves recorded over half of their points on turnovers, collecting 44 on the night.
The Seawolves finished with a shooting percentage of 45.5 percent from the field, including knocking down 8-of-21 from beyond the three-point line. Anchorage recorded 41 points off the bench, 32 points in the paint, and 14 fast break points.
Taylor Baird was the lone Wildcat to score in double-digits. The junior center notched 10 points, four rebounds, and one assist.
Kortney Grattic picked up seven points, six boards, and three assists.
Jasmin Edwards added seven points, three rebounds, and one assist.
Sarah McGee recorded four rebounds, four points, two assists, and two blocks. The Wildcats finished with 30 rebounds, 14 assists, six blocks, and 10 steals. The Wildcats scored 25 points off the bench, 26 points in the paint, and 10 fast break points.
Central Washington travels to Fairbanks, Alaska for Saturday's contest against the Nanooks. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. AKST.
