ELLENSBURG, Wash.- Central Washington University head volleyball coach
Mario Andaya has announced the addition of four athletes that have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Wildcats in the fall of 2018. Joining the squad will be Josie Deming (Blaine,Wash.), Madison Lee (Spokane, Wash.), Lexi Schamadan (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Analia Vasquez (Leavenworth, Wash.).

JOSIE DEMING
Blaine, Wash.
Blaine High School

Deming was a four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at Blaine High School under head coach Bryan Clausen, where she helped the Borderites to a 15-9-2 overall record… A 2017 Second Team All-Conference selection, Deming recorded 96 kills, a .189 hitting percentage, eight service aces, 96 digs, and eight total blocks as a senior… She has also been named the Blaine High School Athlete of the Year as a junior (2017) and earned the Whatcom County Sportsmanship Award.

Deming also excelled in other athletic endeavors, including throwing the javelin and playing basketball… As a junior, she placed fifth at state in the javelin after breaking the school record in the event… Deming was a four-year letterwinner for basketball, where she was voted captain her sophomore, junior and senior years… She also has received two varsity letters for softball.

Academically, Deming has been a member of the National Honor Society for four years and has accumulated a 3.9 GPA… She also received awards for academic excellence in 11th grade English (2017), World History (2016), and Biology (2015).

Coach Andaya on Deming: "Josie is a great addition to the Wildcat family. She can do multiple sports here at CWU, but of course we are very excited for what she will do for us on the volleyball court. Josie can be very effective for us on both pins, and her potential as a blocker will help us sustain our ability to block at a high level. We see her as a versatile attacker, but we were also impressed with her back row play as well."

Madison Lee
Spokane, Wash.
Mead High School

The two-time All Greater Spokane League MVP, Lee has been a member of the All State Tournament Team for the past two years… Through her impressive play and leadership on the court, Lee has helped the Panthers reach the Washington State Championship twice… The Panthers have also been crowned region champs three times and league champions twice… Lee and the Panthers just capped off an undefeated record in league and regional play this year without dropping a single set.

In the classroom, Lee has earned a cumulative 4.0 GPA and has been a member of the National Honor Society.

Coach Andaya on Lee: "There are somethings you can't train, and have to recruit. Maddie is a very skilled player, but are equally excited about the intangibles she brings that have help make her previous teams successful. We can't wait to get her energy in our already thriving gym. Talent-wise, Maddie is a very good passer, has a rocket arm and and has a great mindset for defense."

Schamadan and Scottsdale Christian Academy were crowned State Champions in 2017 after she recorded 451 kills, a .315 hitting percentage, 81 aces and 209 digs… Her performance on the volleyball court earned her recognition as the All-Region Offensive Player of the Year… She was also named the All-Region Player of the Year and team MVP in 2016.

Coach Andaya on Schamadan: "Lexi brings instant offense to our squad. She has the tools to get a lot of kills for us. Lexi is very quick, jumps well, and her arm is exceptionally fast. We know she has been coached and trained well in club and HS, so we are excited what she will bring to our team. It was a pleasure to get to know her during the recruiting process, and we are thrilled she chose to come to the NW."

ANALIA VASQUEZ

Cascade High School

Vasquez was a two-year varsity team captain as well as a four-year letterwinner at Cascade High School, where she helped lead the Bruins finish second at the Anaheim Soiree and third at the Central Tournament in 2017… The Bruins were also League and District Champions in 2016, where Vasquez was named a first team WIAA 1A All-State outside hitter, First Team All-League and Co-Offensive MVP…

Vasquez also excells on the softball diamond, where she is a three-year letterwinner and earned second team All-League recognition as a junior… Additionally, she has won the Weightlifting, Most Improved Player, Mindful, and Leadership awards while at Cascade.

Coach Andaya on Vasquez: "Analia has a great upside, and even since the time she committed to us this summer we have seen tremendous growth in her game. Ana hits a heavy ball, is physical at the net, and her passing game is steadily improving. We got a good one to stay close to home, so we feel very fortunate and excited about what she will do for this program."
