Reuble's Fourth-Inning Slam Secures Split with SMU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington freshman Julia Reuble hit a grandslam in the bottom of the fourth inning in game one of the softball team's double header against Saint Martin's University, to help the Wildcats come from behind and defeat the Saint's 9-5 to secure a day one split.

The Saints used a 12-run seventh inning in game two to break open a 1-1 game and take game two 13-5 over the Wildcats.

Central Washington moves to 32-8 on the season and 19-3 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  The Saints now stand at 20-14 on the season, 12-8 GNAC.

The Wildcats scored a pair of runs in the first inning of game one on a two-run single by Jacie McDaniels, and added another in the third where Savannah Egbert drove in McDaniels from third to give CWU a 3-0 lead.

In the top of the fourth inning, the Saints pushed around four runs, due in large part to two fielding miscues by the Wildcats to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom half of the frame.

After a pair of singles by Kayla Ellis and Rachael Johnson, the Wildcats loaded the bases and with two out, Reuble sent a 2-2 offering over the centerfield wall to help the Wildcats regain the lead at 7-4.

The Saints added one more run in the fifth, and Central responded by adding two runs in the sixth on a two-run single by Taylor Ferleman that plated Kailyn Campbell and McDaniels to secure the 9-5 victory.

Kiana Wood went the distance in the circle for the Wildcats, allowing nine hits and four earned runs to improve to 17-1 on the season.

Game two was tight for six innings with both teams scoring once in the first inning.  After Saint Martin's took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, Jacie McDaniels collected her third RBI of the day, doubling to right centerfield, scoring Celine Fowler on the play.

Central Washington starting pitcher Kayla Smith gave up just five hits in the contest, but came away with the loss in game two, moving her record to 9-6 on the season.

Saint Martin's pushed around 12 runs in the seventh, collecting 11 hits, the biggest a three-run homerun by Corrie Wilson to give the Saints the go-ahead runs.

Central Washington did not go down without a fight, scoring four times in the final inning on run scoring doubles by Ferleman and Campbell, and a sacrifice fly by Griffin.  Unfortunately, 12 run hole was too much, as the Wildcat fell to the Saints 13-5.

Central Washington and Saint Martin's will conclude their four-game series tomorrow, Monday, Apr. 24 in Ellensburg starting at 1 p.m.
