Men's Basketball Adds Transfer Malik Montoya to 2017-18 Roster

The Central Washington men's basketball team has added sophomore transfer Malik Montoya to its 2017-18 roster.

Montoya is a 6 foot 2 guard who prepped at Federal Way High School before spending the last two seasons at Division I Seattle University.

As a true freshman with the Redhawks, Montoya played in 13 games before his season was cut short due to injury.  Known for his defensive prowess, he contributed 1.5 steals per game in his first season as the sixth-man for Seattle U.

"Malik is a big-time defender, and his ability to lock up the perimeter will be a big asset to us." CWU Head Coach Greg Sparling said.  "He had a great high school career where he really got to show his ability to impact a game on the offensive end.  He has a good outside shot and can score in many different ways."

As a junior at Federal Way Montoya averaged 17.9 points point per game, scoring a career-high 34 points against Tahoma.
