LETHBRIDGE, Alberta- The Central Washington University women's rugby team suffered their first loss of the 2017 season, 14-33, to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
"For our second game we played really well as a team," junior fly half
Leah Ingold said. "We had a lot of combinations on the field throughout the 4 quarters and we adjusted well. As a team we know now what we need to work on and are excited to get back to practice and prepare for Victoria next week."
The Wildcats got on the board first when senior
Emma Leonard offloaded to sophomore
Suiluana A'au who sprinted into the try zone for her fourth try of the weekend.
The Pronghorns responded quickly, scoring 19 unanswered points to enter halftime leading 19-7.
Lethbridge University kept its form in the second half, scoring another try before redshirt freshman
Mikayla Roberts ended the Pronghorns' scoring streak. Sophomore scrum half
Spencer Boldt connected with Roberts near the center of the pitch and Roberts bullied her way over the try line.
Lethbridge added another try before the final whistle for a 33-14 victory.
"Not the outcome we wanted but such an amazing effort from the girls," junior flanker
Joanna Moreira said. "We had great hustle on defense but perfecting the little things will help us for this upcoming weekend. It only goes up from here."
The Wildcats will face the University of Victoria on Sept. 9 at 12 p.m.
